Print companies in Newmarket, Ontario, may want to absorb some of the advice that key speakers recently gave at the concluded Print World in Toronto. One in particular, the president of One of a Kind Marketing, Anita Windisman, gave exhibition attendees a lot of pointers on the use of social media.
Many of her comments focused on the comparison between traditional or old-school media and the newer and more technologically savvy social media.
First, she listed the most popular social media marketing tools. They are Facebook, Twitter, blogs, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
She advised users of LinkedIn not to carry their Twitter feeds on that site. The reason given was to ensure that potential business contacts are not aggravated with constant updates.
Next, Windisman moved on to blogging, which she asserted permits people to get their websites ranked higher by Google, call themselves experts in their industry, communicate their message for free, garner attention from the media, and then also build both a following and a community.
She also reminded the attendees at Print World that the use of Google Alerts is an effective way to keep track of what people say about businesses.
Windisman finished with a startling fact that likely grabbed many people by surprise. She claimed that the average demographic of people on Twitter is actually middle-aged people in the range of 45 to 54 years old. This is startling because younger people are always thought to be the ones to snap up new technology the quickest and earliest.
Print companies in Newmarket would no doubt have picked up many tips from Windisman’s presentation at Print World.
