A campaign to benefit the Newmarket hospital has hit another milestone, with Signs for Southlake announcing it has raised $30,000.
The program was created by NewRoads Automotive Group and Neal Brothers Foods in April to help Southlake Regional Health Centre battle COVID-19. The initiative sees donors purchase lawn Signs, with proceeds going to the Centre. In addition to the financial contribution, mounting a sign on a lawn or in a window is meant to show frontline healthcare workers that they are supported by the community. Lawn Signs are often provided by local Print shops or printing services and are used in charitable or political campaigns as a way to offer public support.
Delivery and installation of the Signs was carried out by NewRoads, which also ran its usual spring fundraiser for Southlake with a virtual edition. Approximately 500 Signs have been purchased by residents and businesses. Organizers held a special ceremony with local political leaders to celebrate the milestone and present a ceremonial cheque for $30,000.
NewRoads President Michael Croxon has explained his reasons for starting the campaign:
“It’s a way we can acknowledge the efforts and sacrifices of our frontline workers while also raising some much-needed funds for Southlake’s COVID-19 Action Fund. We knew that we had the resources to help at NewRoads, like willing volunteers among our staff and delivery vehicles that we could deploy.”
Signs for Southside officially celebrated reaching $30, 000 on September 2, and donations remain open.
