Newmarket to celebrate years First Night

The Town of Newmarket will be holding its annual First Night event this New Year’s Eve, aiming to kick off 2026 with a bang.

The day will kick off with a free ice skating show provided by the Newmarket Skating Club at Bobby Dorhan Rink, which will be presented twice in the afternoon. Residents can then take to the ice themselves with free public skating on four of Newmarket’s rinks, or take a warmer dip at Andrin Lakeview Athletic Centre.

The evening events will include a free live outdoor concert headlined by the Bianca Rollo Band, and a traditional fireworks display. The fireworks will take place shortly after dusk, making it convenient for families with younger children or those with plans for later in the night. The town describes the event as:

“The perfect way to end the year with laughter, joy, and memories that will last a lifetime.”

Attendees to First Night are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Newmarket Food Pantry. A section of Fernbank Road will be closed to accommodate the fireworks display. Municipalities around the world host New Year’s Eve events like this to celebrate the changing of the calendar, often using poster printing or social media to advertise the event to locals.

The 2025-26 edition of First Night Newmarket will take place on December 31 outside the Magna Centre and at other locations.
