The town of Newmarket is once again putting on a family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration, entitled First Night.
The event will include a variety of activities, including a glow-in-the-dark dance party with live music by Switchbeat. For the more athletically inclined, there will be free access to two public skating rinks and a pool.
There will also be a stage featuring life performances by Mighty Mike, an old-fashioned strongman, and DJ Tyler Stevenson. Food and drink will be available outside the building from the Wickely Sinful food truck which features award-winning poutine and “bang bang duck”. The event sponsor, Tim Horton’s, will be offering free coffee and hot chocolate.
The event will conclude with a countdown and fireworks around 9pm, to offer children the New Year’s Eve experience without keeping them up past their bedtimes. The 2018 edition of the event was a success, with kids enjoying face-painting, magic shows, and other treats.
On nights typically associated with bars and partying, family-friendly events like this, sometimes advertised with poster printing, can be a good alternative for families with young children. Of course, plenty of new parents probably won’t regret the chance to get to bed early themselves.
First Night will take place at the Magna Centre in Newmarket and will be starting at 5pm on New Year’s Eve.
