Newmarket tours to show off civic ghosts

October is spooky season, and the town of Newmarket will take part in the spirited festivities through a “Ghost of Old Town Hall.” The tour aims to show off the history of Newmarket, both undisputed and superstitious, to both residents and visitors.

The guided walking tour will take guests from the Old Town Hall down historic downtown’s Main Street, stopping along the way to explain spooky legends and rumours. The tour will include a live “paranormal investigation” hosted by the Georgina Paranormal Society, and some non-phantasmal treats at the end. The latter group will also be holding their annual “One Dark Night” event in Georgina this October, presenting a night-long celebration of the eerie and unusual.

The event is sponsored by snapd, an event advertising website. Ghost tours have proved to be a popular activity in many cities, livening up historical walks. These events are often advertised through poster printing and brochure printing, as well as in dedicated tourist publications and websites. Even regular Newmarket residents may enjoy a different perspective of the town’s history, which stretches back to the 1880s.

The Ghost of Old Town Hall Tours will take place throughout October, running every Wednesday from the 2nd to the 30th. Walkers will depart from Old Town Hall, and will include approximately an hour of walking followed by a half-hour “investigation” and social.
