Senior citizens in a Newmarket retirement home have set an example for the next generation as they raised hundreds of dollars for a children’s charity.

The Roxborough Retirement Residence managed to raise approximately $900 for Sleeping Children Around the World, which is an organization that works in 33 countries across the globe, providing bed kits to youth who do not have a decent place to sleep.

Sandra Riches, a volunteer with Sleeping Children Around the World, came to the retirement residence where one of her parents currently lives to give a presentation describing the work the charity does. She said:

“In some parts of the world, children do not have what they need to have a good night’s sleep. The goal is to build a world where children benefit from the comfort of a good sleep.”

As part of the presentation, Flyers providing further information and advocating for the work of Sleeping Children Around the World may have been distributed. Such flyers could serve to remind donors of the charity after the presentation was over, as well as provide contact information if residents wanted to give in the future.

The bed kits distributed can vary slightly depending on the location of the distribution. All kits include a pillow, a sheet, a mattress, and in areas where required, mosquito nets are given out.
