At a recent ceremony, the town of Newmarket recognized those who lend a helping hand by sponsoring community events and programs.
The awards, intended to be a lighthearted way of saying ‘thank you’, were presented to the many different community sponsorship partners. Local dignitaries were also on hand, including the town’s mayor, who noted that many of the activities that take place in Newmarket wouldn’t be possible if not for the sponsorship.
More than 30 of these recognitions were given out, including the ‘Community Ambassaroar’, which was presented to the North Newmarket Lions Club to thank the group for partnering with the community.
A previous president of the Lions Club accepted the award on behalf of the organization, and remarked that the club raises money to help support various events.
The funds provided by community sponsorships have helped to ensure that 20,000 people were able to attend cultural and recreational programs, while 9,000 could take swimming lessons and 50 summer camps were held. It also helped to pay for larger community events such as Winterfest, Moonlight Movies, Kanata, and First Night.
Recognizing those who contribute to the overall quality of life in a town helps to show appreciation for everything they do.
