Newmarket music series to highlight tribute acts

This summer, Newmarket residents can hear some of the biggest pop songs of all time every Thursday night.

This year’s TD Newmarket Music Series is dedicated to the tribute band, a staple of bars and local music events everywhere. Each night will see an original opening act followed by a tribute to a legendary group or artist. Visitors can also enjoy a local beer garden and barbecue provided by Cachet Restaurant and Market Brewing Company. The series is part of a busy summer music season leading up to the Newmarket Music Festival at the end of August.

The summer lineup includes homages to classic pop groups like the Beach Boys (their Newmarket equivalent being the Beach Party Boys) and ABBA (ABBA Revisited). One group, under the name of Material Girls, will pay tribute to Madonna and Cher along with more recent pop divas like Lady Gaga and Adele. Tribute acts like this are often local favourites, getting the word out with colourful poster printing and flyer printing.

The Newmarket Music Series kicked off on July 4 with long-running Tragically Hip tribute act The Practically Hip, and will conclude on August 22 with Simply Queen. The shows will take place at the Newmarket Riverwalk Commons, although they may move to Community Centre Hall 1 or 2 in the event of inclement weather. Guests are invited to bring their own lawn chairs and nonperishable donations to the Newmarket Food Pantry.
