Newmarket man makes Halloween a treat for his local food bank

A resident of Newmarket decided to combine his love of Halloween with a desire to help those in his community by making it easier for them to put food on their tables.

Jacob Gal set up a maze and haunted house in front of his home in Billings Crescent. The displays covered an area of nearly 1,500 square feet, and had everything from a cornstalk garden to a haunted cemetery and more. Actors in costumes helped to add to the overall spooky feeling of the event, which took place from 6:00 pm until midnight on Halloween.

According to Mr. Gal, he had a lot of assistance from his friends, who all worked hard to give the public who came out to walk through his displays a good scare. Flyers can help to promote this type of event to the surrounding community.

Just as he did last year, Mr. Gal was accepting donations for the Newmarket Food Pantry as the admission price to enter the maze. He noted that he wanted to do what he could to help ensure that its shelves are well stocked for the cold months to come. He had set a goal of $2,500 in donations, but pointed out that so long as he gathered more than the $500 worth of contributions that he did last year, he would be happy, and he hopes his efforts inspire others to do their part as well.
