Newmarket gets ready to launch Buskerfestival

The Town of Newmarket is gearing up to host its annual Buskerfestival and Street Art Celebration this coming weekend.

Buskerfestival features a variety of entertainment consisting of jugglers, musicians, magicians, comics, and clowns, all of which perform live in front of an audience. The event will also feature several special acts and exhibits specifically designed for children, such as the jumping castles that last all day and train rides on the Tim Hortons Express, which are in the afternoon only.

The idea of busking is as old as civilization itself and many societies have documented public street performances of all kinds. The word ‘busking’ dates to 19th century Great Britain and at that point in history, buskers were known to perform throughout Europe, as well as in Mexico, the United States, and Japan.

In order to ensure a successful turnout, a public event such as Buskerfestival has likely been advertised throughout Newmarket and the York Region. In addition, individual buskers often advertise their shows at the event itself. It’s possible that both event organizers and individual buskers hired a printing company for the purposes of banner printing in order to accomplish this task.

Admission to Buskerfestival is completely free for everyone and takes place on Saturday, September 20th on the Riverwalk Commons at 200 Doug Duncan Drive. The event begins at 10:00am and goes until 5:00pm.
