An upcoming Newmarket pop culture marketplace will look to make a super-heroic impact by raising money for a local good cause.
Newmarket ComiCon will be a pop culture collector show featuring comic shops, vintage stores and other area vendors offering new and vintage pop culture items, including comic Books, toys, jewellery, DVDs, anime and manga. Some vendors will also be buying used comics, video games and other vintage items. The event is more stripped down than some larger conventions, but dealer’s floors like these are popular everywhere, often offering a chance to find rare Promotional Products and other items.
The convention also provides a chance to meet and buy work from local artists and cartoonists, as well as the opportunity to dress in pop culture costumes, or “cosplay”, another common comic convention staple.
Attendees are also asked to bring canned or other non-perishable food, which will go towards Newmarket area food banks. Each donation will be exchanged for a raffle ticket for free prizes. In particular, baby items, pet supplies, condiments and school snacks are in high demand. Newmarket ComiCon is hosted by Pop Culture Canada, which holds similar small conventions around Ontario, as well as wrestling shows, typically with a charitable slant.
Newmarket Comicon will take place on December 4 at the Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall, with admission free for children aged 12 and under.
