Newmarket food pantry plans fundraising campaign

The Newmarket Food Pantry has announced that it will be bringing its Move4Food charitable campaign back for a second year beginning at the end of the month.

Move4Food encourages people to commit to a mobile activity to help raise funds from friends and family. The exact activity is open-ended but could include a certain amount of miles walked, ran or biked, or a daily commitment to a different type of exercise. Participants can register as an individual or a team.

Long-distance runs and walks have long been used to raise money for good causes, often promoted through means like poster printing and social media, and have recently embraced greater flexibility when it comes to the when and where of the activity.

This year’s edition of Move4Food will have the theme of “Fill the Fridge”, with funds raised towards the Food Pantry’s new community fridge program. The program operates on a “take what you need, leave what you can” policy and is open to all. Some funds will also go towards the Food Pantry’s upcoming Community Empowerment Resource Education and Awareness Learning (CEREAL) Centre, which aims to provide educational programming on cooking and nutrition. The Newmarket organization hopes to raise $15,000 through the challenge.

The 2022 version of Move4Food will take place between May 29 and June 19.
