Newmarket’s celebration of the annual Culture Days festival is ready to start, bringing with it the theme “RE:IMAGINE”.
The festival will be a month-long series of events highlighting the arts in Newmarket and surrounding areas. The Writers Community of York Region will celebrate its tenth anniversary with a virtual showcase of writers, poets and songwriters.
On October 2, the Elman W. Campbell Museum will invite families to “Re:Imagine: A Simpler Time” by taking part in traditional harvest games and activities such as an apple tree ring toss and the potato-on-spoon game. Events like these often use brochure printing to add some education to the entertainment.
Culture Days will be using its website and other social media to highlight local creators, such as graphic and spoken-word artist Jaylah Hall and musician Jayce Robinson. The festival also encourages ordinary people to add an artistic note to their daily life, such as making faces by sticking googly eyes to ordinary items and backdrops throughout Newmarket. The festival organizers have situated the experience in recent events:
“The arts and culture sector has emerged as a worldwide lifeline of joy, providing the colour, hope and reprieve needed to make it through this unprecedented past year with COVID-19. Collectively, we’re imagining what a post-pandemic world will look like.”
The 2021 edition of Newmarket’s Culture Days will take place between September 24 and October 24.
