An upcoming classical concert in Newmarket is set to bring together young musicians from across the York Region.
The show is Visual and Performing Arts Newmarket’s (VPAN) annual Young Artists’ Showcase. Announced names include pianist Harrison Vandikas, viola performer Angela Sievers, baritone vocalist William Morrissey and trumpeter Carlene Brown.
Past concerts in the series have featured musical solos with piano accompaniment. The Young Artists Showcase has taken place since 2000, with the most recent edition taking place in 2020. The event is scheduled to be one of the first concerts held by VPAN held since the start of social distancing regulations. All local regulations will be in effect at the concert.
The Young Artists Showcase is planned to kick off an abbreviated 2022 season for VPAN. The organization has also announced that acclaimed violinist Rivka Golani and Canadian pianist Angela Park will perform together in March. VPAN will also be presenting the Toronto Mandolin Orchestra, one of Canada’s oldest musical groups, in April.
Concerts like this often use tools such as brochure printing and speaker announcements before or after a performance to provide an explanatory and educational note to the music and to make the classical style more accessible.
Visual and Performing Arts Newmarket’s 2022 Young Artists’ Showcase is scheduled to take place on the afternoon of Sunday, February 27 at Newmarket’s Old Town Hall.
