Newmarket charity event set to tee off

An upcoming event in Newmarket promises a day on the links, with proceeds going to local hospices.

The Tee Off for Hospice event will see participants register for a full 18 holes of golf, with each registrant also receiving a power cart for using on-course, and a complimentary lunch and beverage. Tee times will be staggered throughout the day to give everyone a chance to make their way through the course.

The funds raised will go towards Margaret Bahen Hospice and Doane House Hospice. Both hospices currently operate free-of-charge and have maintained an occupancy rate of 93% during the pandemic, providing comfort for people with serious medical conditions.

The Tee Off event is the latest in a series of fundraisers held to raise money for Newmarket hospices, including a pair of days in May designated for virtual hikes. Individuals will also be able to purchase a “Golf Your Way” pass, allowing them to play on a different day while supporting the same cause.

Charitable events like this, often promoted using flyer printing and social media, have had to adapt over the past year, with many shifting to online formats or hosting outdoor events.

The 2021 edition of Tee Off for Hospice is scheduled to take place at the Pheasant Run Golf Club on June 17, if local restrictions allow.
