Newmarket brewery nominated for provincial award

Newmarket’s Red Thread Brewing Company has been nominated in the first ever Ontario Made Awards, which highlights outstanding Ontario businesses that support the province’s economy.

Red Thread brews a number of beers that are available for delivery, as well as in liquor stores and restaurants in Newmarket and the Greater Toronto Area. Their offerings include the Make Tracks lager, Red X ale, Liquid Eight stout and short-term seasonal brews.

The brewery uses local ingredients, using Ontario-grown hops and Canadian grains, which is part of the reason for the Ontario Made recognition. Red Thread is nominated in the Retailer Spotlight category, which highlights sellers who spotlight local products. The company’s name comes from the idea of connection to the environment and local surroundings, with its website stating that:

“The Red Thread is all about connection to the people and the things we love. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.”

The Ontario Made awards are an initiative of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) to recognize local businesses that make an impact. Other awards include Manufacturer Spotlight, Merchandising Excellence, and Consumer Awareness. The nominations were selected by CME, and the winners will be selected based on an online vote available to all Ontario residents. Awards like this can highlight and give prestige to small businesses, which may feature them in advertising campaigns and on their Promotional Products.

Voting will be available online for the Ontario Made awards until January 7. The winners will be recognized in an online awards ceremony on February 24.
