The project, called “Auroralicious”, was put into motion by the local branch of the Canadian Food & Wine Institute and is supported by the Aurora Chamber of Commerce. Aurora restaurants will offer multi-course meals for a set price. The goal is to encourage residents of Aurora and nearby towns like Newmarket to try out new places to eat, and allow restaurants to put their best foot forward by highlighting favourite dishes.
Shoeless Joe’s, for example, will be offering a family meal bundle with two adult entrees and two kid-sized meals, along with caramel pretzel bites for dessert.
The selected dinners will be available for take-out and delivery. Events like this are often used to raise a restaurant's profile, along with tools like brochure printing and social media posting. Sandra Ferri, President and CEO of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, sees Auroralicious as a way to build community togetherness:
“This is an opportunity for people to try out some of these restaurants and some of their best fares at great prices and it is an opportunity to not cook for a couple of weeks and just enjoy a little culinary staycation.”
Auroralicious will run from March 12 to 28. The list of participating restaurants and their specials will be maintained online and added to throughout the month.
