New art exhibit to debut in Newmarket area

The Aurora Cultural Centre will be unveiling its new exhibit for a limited time this April with “Illusions of Separation”.

Illusions of Separation is a solo exhibit by Toronto-based multi-disciplinary artist Samar Hejazi. Hejazi’s artworks will be suspended in air, designed to constantly be changing through different exposure to light and different perspectives. Hejazi’s work uses multiple media but is especially known for the use of fabric and textiles to challenge the boundaries of genre. The artist says of their work:

“I attempt to reveal the complexities of boundaries and question what is considered substance in the identification of a body. This series encourages the viewer to realize that perception of boundaries are continuous interpretations based in the encounter between themselves and the other.”

The exhibit will debut with a free opening reception at the Aurora Town Hall. The reception will feature an Artist Talk by Hejazi and light refreshments. Events like this are a way to encourage art lovers from surrounding areas such as Newmarket and Toronto to take in the exhibit, and are commonly used by galleries and museums, as well as tools such as brochure printing and social media.

Illusions of Separation will have its opening reception on April 1, and it will be on display at the Aurora Cultural Centre until April 29. A digital version of the exhibit will be available online until June 1.
