Horror-inspired circus headed to Newmarket

The Paranormal Cirque will be traveling to Newmarket this October, presenting an adult-aimed version of the traditional circus suitable for the spooky season.

The show will feature typical circus performers like acrobats, illusionists, stunt performers and clowns. Shows often feature death-defying stunts involving heights, fire, body contortion and more. The Cirque also takes inspiration from cabaret and live theatre in creating a horror-esque atmosphere under the black-and-red big tent, with lights and sounds appropriate to the Halloween season. Promotional material emphasizes the unique presentation of the circus, describing it as:

“A new show with breathtaking implications always poised between fun and the most uninhibited fear that will transport you to a dark world inhabited by creatures with incredible circus art abilities [...] a show that brings you back to when we dream.”

Circuses and other performing arts shows often use colourful images and language on their marketing material, investing in poster printing and other methods to attract a curious audience. The Newmarket performance will be from the Paranormal Cirque IV troupe touring southern Ontario, including cities like Hamilton and Scarborough. The tour is run by the Cirque Italia organization, which also runs the Water Circus tour among others.

Cirque Paranormal IV will take place in Newmarket from October 3 to 6 in the parking lot of Upper Canada Mall. Admission is only for those 17 or older, or 13-16 accompanied by an adult.
