Family movie night headed to Newmarket

An upcoming screening series will aim to get kids, families and movie lovers alike out in Newmarket’s great outdoors.

The Moonlight Movies series will present free outdoor movies at Newmarket’s public parks. The selection of films is geared towards families, including recent animated hits like Encanto and Luca and blockbusters such as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Jungle Cruise. Visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, as well as their own snacks and drinks. There will be accessible portable washrooms and hand-washing stations on site.

The series was created by the Town of Newmarket to help provide family entertainment and highlight its many parks. The event uses a large, inflatable and portable screen to replicate the experience of a classic drive-in. Outdoor movie screenings have experienced a resurgence over the past few years as people looked for a way to enjoy the big-screen experience safely, with events often using banner printing and social media to attract visitors. The Moonlight Movies series first launched in 2020 and has been a hit, including both classic and recent family films.

Moonlight Movies 2022 will take place between August 10 and 31 at a variety of outdoor locations, including Marilyn Powell Park, George Richardson Park South and Dr. Margaret Arkinstall Park. Attendance is free for all movies.
