Curling event to raise funds for Newmarket cancer center

The Sweep for Southlake curling bonspiel is taking place in Newmarket next month.

The event will raise funds for the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre and this year's goal is to collect $5,000.

Participants will pay $40 each or $160 per team of four to have the opportunity to compete. The registration fee will include breakfast, lunch, curling equipment, and three games for each team.

Newcomers to the sport can get coaching before they play and Country Zen Yoga is expected to provide a warm-up for all players. There are also prizes to be won and information about the chosen charity will be on display. Spectators are encouraged to come and cheer on their favorite teams.

The Stronach Regional Cancer Centre serves the entire area of York Region and, since opening in 2010, has helped approximately 65,000 patients. One of the many schemes the center provides is the Cancer Survivorship Program, which offers information on living after the disease and provides one-on-one support to meet the emotional and physical needs of people who are affected.

This important charity event will no doubt be advertised widely in the Newmarket area. Local printing companies are often asked to help with such promotional efforts by providing services such as poster and flyer printing.

The Sweep for Southlake is taking place at the York Curling Club on January 18 from 8:00am-4:30pm. To find out more information, or to register, call Alexandra Boasie at 289-383-4222 or Michael Goodman at 905-960-2295.
