Art competition to return to Newmarket

The Newmarket Juried Art Show will be returning for a 4th year this September, with its first in-person show in three years.

The show is open to all Southern Ontario artists. There will be awards presented based on media, with categories for Painting, Photography, Pottery, Fibre Arts, Sculpture and Mixed Media. The jury will also present a Jurors Choice Award and four Honourable Mention Awards. All awards are sponsored by local businesses and individuals.

As in all past instalments, the Juried Art Show will have an online component, with works previously displayed online using virtual reality applications. The 2020 and 2021 shows were entirely virtual, but this year will see a return to a physical display.

Past editions have received over 100 submissions, and whittled that down to approximately 30 pieces. This year’s show will have a gala reception to allow artists to showcase their work in a social section, with the gala also having a virtual component. Art shows like this are a way for emerging artists to gain recognition, with shows often using tools like flyer printing and social media posts to attract both artists and visitors.

The 2022 Newmarket Juried Art Show will be on display in Newmarket’s Old Town Hall from September 11th to 25th. The Gala Reception is set for the evening of September 15th.
