Plants, animals and even fungi can all be invasive, and an upcoming Mississauga activity will shine a light on these species and how to prevent the damage they can cause.
The organizers of the Invasive Species Awareness Fair have put together a schedule of activities that will be family friendly. Their goal is for everyone to walk away with a better understanding of how invasives get established and spread, and Erindale Park will be the venue for the day.
The participants will be able to visit the information booths set up by local environmental organizations, and two guided walks are in the works. A giveaway of native plants has been set, and face painting, live entertainment, free food and a hands-on garlic mustard pull will take place as well. Forrest, the Forestry mascot, will be circulating through the crowd and posing for photo ops, and the goats that are being used to help keep areas clear of invasive plants will also be on site.
A festival-style occasion like this may attract a lot of attention. Print shops can help to produce promotional materials to spread the word.
The Invasive Species Awareness Fair will bring the fun to Erindale Park on Saturday, May 30th. It will kick off at 10:00 am and run until 1:30 pm. There is no admission fee being charged.
