There is an environmental movement afoot that kicks lawns to the curb, and an upcoming workshop will provide anyone who is interested in finding out more with tips and advice for doing so.
The Goodbye Lawn class, hosted by Mississauga organization Blooming Boulevards, will show how easy it can be to transform a monoculture lawn into an area that is blooming with diversity. It will be offered on the Zoom platform, and a donation of $5.00 has been requested.
The facilitator for the session will discuss a variety of viable options that may be used to replace turfgrass, and native species will be the focus of the event. Everyone will discover the benefits of doing so, and when they head for home, they will have the knowledge needed to create a space that invites nature in. There will be an emphasis on choosing species and cultivars that attract pollinators, and the session will have a run time of one hour.
Online learning provides a way to share information with a wide audience, and a banner printing company can help to make a virtual workshop more engaging by providing backdrops and other props.
Mississauga households that would like to find out if they can kick their lawn to the curb are welcome to register for this class with a $5 donation. Scheduled for March 28th, it will begin at 11:00 am.
