One of the parts of parenting an autistic child that can sometimes be a challenge is dealing with an extremely picky eater, so a Kitchener area event has been set up to help navigate through this difficulty.
During ‘Picky Eaters 101’, which will be brought to the local area courtesy of the Autism Services Program of the KidsAbility™ Centre for Child Development, parents and caregivers will discover strategies they can use that can lead to less stressful mealtimes. There will be a discussion about why some children with autism spectrum disorders can be fussy when it comes to food, and also what parents can do to expand the list of foods their child will readily eat.
The attendees in the workshop will receive information about sensory issues and how they can lead to pickiness, how to introduce a new item to the menu, and many other tips that can make mealtime easier for all. The class is one of a series of six, and those who register are making a commitment to attend all of them. Comb binding can be used by an area printer to create manuals and other items for this type of educational event.
The workshop will be held on January 10 at 500 Hallmark Drive in Waterloo. More information is available on the Kids Ability website.
