The City of Kitchener has announced a slate of programming for Youth Month this May, aiming to appeal to children and young people of all kinds.
The events will kick off with the Big Scoop celebration, featuring sweet tweets. Youth can win prizes through the Guess A Jar and Plinko Spin & Win events, which will be open throughout the first week of May. The Bridgeport Community Centre will provide a free Zumba class, featuring high-energy dance moves and pulsing music, as well as a free yoga class from the KO Yoga Foundation.
Other workshops on offer include watercolour painting in a supportive environment, and a “Multisport Workshop” where participants will rotate between different physical activities including basketball, pickleball and soccer. The week of events will conclude with the “Minute to Win It” Challenge, where youth will participate in a series of rapid-fire 60-second challenges at Country Hills Community Centre.
These programs are aimed at Kitchener residents. Youth Month is celebrated across Canada in May, including National Child and Youth Mental Health Day on May 7. Community programs like this often use methods like poster printing and social media to help reach a younger audience. Kitchener will also be holding its 3rd annual Every Kid Counts Day festival on May 2.
Kitchener’s Youth Month events will take place at community centres around the city from May 1 to 8.
