Many people today are concerned about the state of the environment and believe that education is the key to preserving nature. Two events coming up at the Waterloo Region Museum should go a long way in educating the public about local environmental challenges.
The 18th annual Waterloo Wellington Children's Groundwater Festival is aimed at those in grades 2 through 5; school groups are especially welcome to attend. This week-long festival will show the importance of water and how to preserve it. There will be demonstrations, interactive activities and environmental displays.
Ecofest will take place for one day in June. This year's theme is ‘Reduce your footprint ... one step at a time’. There will be plenty of children's activities, live birds of prey from Wild Ontario, door prizes, music by the Junkyard Symphony and the ‘marketplace of ideas’.
The marketplace will showcase companies which are dedicated to providing environmentally friendly products and non-profit organizations which will provide information on their roles in educating the public about the environment.
Both of these events are likely to draw visitors from all over the Waterloo Region, including Kitchener. No doubt organizers will be investing in such services as flyer printing to help advertise.
The Waterloo Wellington Children's Groundwater Festival will take place from May 27 - May 31. Admission is $6.50 for children and free for adult supervisors; pre-registration is required. For more information call 519-748-1914.
Ecofest will take place on June 1 from 9:30am- 4:30pm. Admission is free. Those who require more information can contact Susie Steenson at 519-883-5100 x8449.
