Tech sector looking at new ways to attract new workers

Getting new applicants to come, live and work in the Kitchener –Waterloo area is never easy, and recruiting workers in the high tech and creative class category is especially difficult.

For people looking for work in the tech sector, the Kitchener-Waterloo region has over 1,000 vacant jobs waiting to be filled, and is about to advertise to attract talent from all over the world in a big way.

Already the federal government sponsors various Print campaigns to explain Canadian immigration policies and classes abroad, in an effort to attract qualified immigrants. A consulting firm based in Kitchener has so far interviewed 75 workers from the creative sector, along with their families, about setting up home here, and will use some of the interviews in a campaign to attract people in the tech sector.

Some of the openings are within digital design companies and IT companies, who also use a variety of printing services in their respective industries. Hiring attractive candidates for large flagship technology companies is also great news for Print companies in the region, since they often work closely with these companies for various business printing campaigns.

While the national unemployment rate has been climbing, jobs in the tech sector don’t seem to be shedding in the Kitchener and Waterloo region, with an unemployment rate well below the national average.

Who exactly constitutes creative talented workers in the high tech fields? Engineers, architects, and personnel related to design in the arts, culture and education fields.
