The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) recently announced plans for an expanded GO Transit service that will replace the existing Greyhound terminal at Sportsworld Drive in Kitchener. Go Transit envisions that operation will begin from its new terminal as of July 31.
GO Transit plans to have Greyhound’s temporary, canvas terminal structure removed, and will replace it with a larger carpool parking lot and bus bays for waiting passengers. Greyhound will start the demolition of the temporary terminal later next week.
Greyhound had recently distributed Flyers as early as several weeks ago to ensure customers that they would continue operations from the Sportsworld Drive terminal. However, the recent announcement kiboshes those plans, so both GO Transit and Greyhound may have to distribute new, updated flyer printing to inform riders of the amended routes.
Greyhound is hoping to come to terms with MTO so that it can continue operating from the Sportsworld Drive location after the improvements are complete. It is hoping that all existing scheduled routes can be maintained to satisfy its regular and loyal riders.
Ken Boshika, Greyhound’s scheduling manager, wants riders to know that it is not planning to remove any existing schedules as a result of the closure.
Greyhound has operated the terminal at Sportsworld Drive in southern Kitchener since 2007. They hoped to attract passengers with the quick access to Highway 401 and free parking. The success of the Sportsworld Drive terminal as a stop for commuters who work in Toronto could have been what attracted MTO to the location.Get a Free Quote for Flyers
