National Program Affects How Print Companies Package Materials

A national program in place, affecting printers from Kitchener ON to Vancouver BC and everywhere in between has been officially launched to encourage the use of eco-friendly printing and Packaging materials in Canada. The program is entirely voluntary and is entitled The Voluntary Code for the Optimization of Containers, Packaging and Printed Materials encourages eco-friendly Packaging and design and encourages printers to offer printing services that are environmentally sustainable.

Montreal based Eco Enterprise Quebec (EEQ), who has launched the Packaging and printing program, has announced that participating companies can expect publicity. The program, which has been in effects for two weeks now, has been highly publicized by the EEQ president, chairman and board. The program is open to all retailers, and invites registrants of various industries to participate in its programs.

Interested participants in all Canadian provinces and territories can register directly on the EEQ website to view printing and Packaging standards to uphold. The initiatives seek to encourage recycling and discourage multiple Packaging and raise awareness about the environmental harm of over Packaging.

Many Print companies across the country participate in an environmentally sustainable program, whether it be the use of stationary printers, dyes, papers and inks, or energy efficient technology. Becoming involved in cross industry environmental initiatives is an excellent way for printers to demonstrate a sense of corporate responsibility in their local communities and help dispel the prevalent myth that Print companies provide services that are harmful and wasteful for the environment.
