Live music has always been at the heart of Kitchener’s vibrant atmosphere and, in 2022, Waterloo native Betty Anne Keller produced “Rock This Town”, a documentary celebrating the musical history of the area. Now, visitors can reminisce about their favorite music with a trip to the Rock This Town exhibit at the City of Waterloo Museum, a quick drive from downtown Kitchener.
Led Zepplin gave a concert at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium to kick off their 1969 North American tour, and in 1970, Elton John made his first North American appearance at the University of Waterloo pub. Since then, legends such as Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Genesis, Chicago, and many more have shared their talents with Kitchener crowds. Venues for concerts like these are able to increase their publicity reach by using poster printing to advertise upcoming shows.
Until June 2023, visitors to the Museum can immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of those golden days of rock and roll. The exhibit focuses on the film, as well as memorabilia and interactive displays, stories from famous musicians and local heroes who graced the stages of Kitchener from the 60s to the 80s.
The Rock This Town exhibit is open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm at the City of Waterloo Museum, located in the Conestoga Mall on King Street North.
