Movie theatre to reopen in Kitchener

If things go as planned, Kitchener residents will soon have a new place to go when they want a night at the movies.

Matt MacKinnon, Andy Willick, and Daniel Demois will be reopening the Apollo Cinema. The theatre is situated in the basement level of the office building on the corner of Duke and Ontario Streets. The original cinema closed back in 1998.

The movie house will feature the latest in digital projection equipment, with the sound system being supplied by Christie Digital. The new owners are hoping that the setup will make it useful for more than just movies. Their vision includes it becoming a hub of the community – a place that can accommodate such events as movie premiere parties or large-screen video gaming.

According to MacKinnon, he is very excited about reopening the theatre. He has gained extensive knowledge of the industry through his time with the Toronto International Film Festival, and he is happy to be bringing film back to the smaller venue in Kitchener. His partners currently own and operate the 100-year-old Fox Theatre in Toronto’s Beaches neighborhood.

When a new business such as this opens, it may require a lot of promotional efforts in order to let the public know it is up and running. A Print company will be able to work with the owners to determine what kind will work best for them, and they can then Print it to their exact specifications.
