A new manufacturing plant will soon be coming to Kitchener.
The China-based company, Suzhou Xingya Investment Co, along with a Canadian management shareholder team, will be setting up shop in the former office furniture component plant located on Manitou Drive.
The new operation will be called United Enterprises. According to the company’s Chief Financial officer, production should begin in the second quarter of 2015 and will initially provide employment for 50 people, with spots potentially available for 80 more over time.
Most of the positions will be in logistics, machine operation, warehousing, and office staff.
The 300,000 square foot space will be used to produce nails, which will then be shipped to markets in the US.
The announcement regarding the opening of the plant was made during a recent trade mission to China by a group of delegates from 60 different firms from across the province, during which several trade deals were hammered out and signed. The total amount being invested by Suzhou Xingya is around $20m.
