In keeping with the popularity of the newly-released Star Wars movie, the city of Kitchener decided to use it as a starting point for the theme of its
New Year’s holiday celebrations.
Lasting from six in the evening until midnight, the city’s manager of special events Jeff Young remarked that it offered a variety of fun activities for people to enjoy. He further went on to explain that after the success of last year’s “80’s theme”, the city decided to follow a similar plan for this year.
There was a mini arcade, a toycon, a chance for people to come out dressed as their favorite star wars characters, and much more. All of it was free except for the use of the arcade machines.
Along with all of this, there was something for everyone no matter what their age. The kids could have their faces painted, have their photo taken with a character from Star Wars, enjoy skating in Carl Zehr Square and have free hot chocolate.
For the older crowd, there was live music, a vintage gaming lounge, and a variety of vendors who were selling Star Wars memorabilia. A digital printing company can produce a wide assortment of custom designed decorations that can further help to build the festive air during an event like this.
At 11:55, the members of the city council and their special guests got together with local residents to ring in 2016.
