The Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest is celebrating its 45th year this month and is set to be bigger than ever with more than 40 events taking place across nine days.
Kitchener has a large number of residents with German ancestry so this annual event is one of the area’s most popular celebrations.
Most of the events will be taking place downtown on King Street between Water and Cedar Streets. The first to take place in the city will be the Council's Grillefest in Civic Square, with all proceeds going to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
Other activities occurring during the celebration include the 6th annual Bavarian Strongman Classic, a cookery demonstration, a car display, fashion shows and musical performances.
A major part of Oktoberfest is the Thanksgiving Day Parade, which attracts thousands of people from all over the area. The Rocktoberfest Haus Party is also set to entertain visitors at Altes Muenchen Haus.
A week prior to the start of Oktoberfest, a Gala Ball is being held to choose and celebrate Miss Oktoberfest, who will go on to be a special ambassador for the festival throughout the year.
Kitchener printing companies are instrumental in helping organizers prepare for this annual event. No doubt they’ll be providing Banners, Signs, Flyers and even flags.
The Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest takes place from October 11 to 19. General admission is free but many of the activities do come with an extra fee. The Miss Oktoberfest Gala Ball will be held at Bingemans on October 4; tickets are $150. For more information, call 519-638-2029.
