Kitchener Health Officials Want to Boost Flu Shots Through Campaign

The flu season is rolling around and the Waterloo region and city of Kitchener want to be ready and increase the number of people who choose to become immunized with the flu vaccine. Medical officials and health care workers confirmed 238 cases of flu last year from September 2010 and August 2011. The health care community this year is striving to decrease the numbers, partially through targeted ads about influenza facts and vaccine and flu clinic information.

Last year poster printing was visible from the Ministry of Health in many different public domains: subways, shopping centres, buses and health care offices and shot clinics to help boost immunization rates. Despite this, the number of immunizations last year still dropped, both among general public and among healthcare workers themselves. This can be blamed partly on the slowdown of shots after the post H1N1 pandemic subsided, meaning that ads and reminders this year should be more persuasive.

Print companies can play a crucial role in designing effective and targeted campaigns and images to help promote the region’s health and flu prevention campaign this year, called “The Big Shot Challenge.” The campaign specifically targets babies, youth and the elderly, who are at the highest risk of contracting influenza.

Ads should start to be visible across Kitchener and the rest of the Waterloo region shortly. Flu shot clinics are scheduled to open on October 31 until January, during the winter flu prevention advertising blitz.
