Printers in the Kitchener area may be busy for a while while city officials in Kitchener draft an Official Plan for how the city will be become healthier and sustainable in the 21st century, while accommodating an additional 100,000 expected residents through to the year 2031.
City officials are calling on the public to read the official draft and provide comments on its implementation. Considered within the plan will be land use, conservation, and future impacts on the city’s social, cultural, economic and natural environment.
The new Official Plan calls for a density of a density of 200 residents per hectare in the downtown core, an increase from the current 160. Provincial legislation also requires 60% of new development to occur in already built areas, with 40% permissible in new subdivisions. These challenges will have be addressed and discussed by municipal officials. Comments and feedback by residents on the various proposals will be points of debate and discussion in future public meetings.
While Kitchener’s official plan is officially online and most comments are expected to be submitted via email, the city may nonetheless invest in local printing services such as banner printing to place Banners and other advertising in various public venues, to remind Kitchener residents to read and comment on the Official Plan and to become involved in the land management process. Banner printing in local venues can also inform and educate residents without internet access in Kitchener of key proposals in the Official Plan and encourage them respond to the challenges inherent in the Plan.
