Children with autism spectrum disorders, as well as their siblings, are invited to come to an event that will combine fun with learning some useful self-care skills.
The Kitchener Real Canadian Superstore will be hosting a workshop that will see those who participate craft and decorate a gingerbread house of their very own. The houses will be provided to the kids already assembled, and all the supplies they need for decorating them – including royal icing, candies and other sweets – will be on hand for them to use to create a unique look.
Once the construction is complete, the houses will be wrapped carefully in cellophane to protect them on the trip home. While they work, the decorators will be able to enjoy a drink of hot chocolate or cider and holiday snacks.
The class is open to any child with autism who is between the ages of 5 to 18 and their siblings in the same age group. To help avoid too much of a crowd, it has been requested that only one caregiver participate for each child with an ASD. They will need to remain present throughout the activity. Newsletter printing can be used to craft bulletins that let community members known when and where an event like this will be taking place.
The gingerbread house making working will be taking place on December 3 at 875 Highland Road. The fee to participate will be $3 each.
