Kitchener accepts artists for residency program

Artists living in the Kitchener-Waterloo area are being encouraged to apply for the City of Kitchener’s Artist-in-Residence program.

The successful applicant will display his or her work at prominent city property, such as the Kitchener City Hall, as well as educate the public through lectures and workshops.

The Artist-in-Residency program began 19 years ago as a way to get local artists to promote their work, encourage new art, and engage their work with the larger community. Although in previous years the program was limited to visual artists, this year people who participate in all creative disciplines are invited to apply.

Dwight Storring, the outgoing Artist-in-Residence, focused his work on examining the diversity of the Kitchener-Waterloo area by giving a voice to those living in its neighbourhoods, and letting them tell their story. His work was produced as a video, using both clips and still images with audio recordings overlaid to provide context.

Promotion for the program could be done through professional services such as flyer printing, which could get the word out to possible applicants. Promotion for the lectures and exhibits of the chosen artist could also be done using flyer printing or banner printing, possibly using the services of a reputable printing company.

Applications for the Artist-in-Residency program will be accepted until 5:00pm on October 30th.
