Ikea, the popular furniture store from Sweden with locations all across the US and Canada, recently announced that Kitchener is to be the latest addition to that list. However, there will be a slight difference from their usual retail model.
The Kitchener branch will be a “Pickup Point’. This means that shoppers will be able to browse the store’s website and make their purchases. They will then be able to have them delivered to the location where they can pick it up in person for a twenty-dollar fee. Along with this, there will be a small size showroom that features some of the company’s most popular furniture items that can be purchased and taken home immediately.
The site for this new store is expected to be in the Sportsworld area on Gateway Drive and the plans call for it to open sometime in 2016. It will provide employment for between 30 to 35 individuals from the local area, and it will have about one tenth the floor space of one of their typical branches. A Direct Mail printing company can be used to produce promotional materials that can be mailed to all the households in the area letting know about the grand opening of the new enterprise.
The first of Ikea’s “pickup point” style locations in North America is set to open in London.
