The residents of Kitchener will be donning their walking boots in the name of two worthy causes next month.
The Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope is held annually in at least 40 communities throughout Canada. The Walk takes place on the second Sunday in September, during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Participants can take part in either a 5K or 2.5K walk.
The goal of this year’s event is to raise $45,000 for Ovarian Cancer research. Those taking part solicit pledges; all participants receive a t-shirt and awards are presented to those who raise the most money. After the walk there will be refreshments and live entertainment.
The 16th annual Butterfly Walk to Remember is also taking place on September 8. The walk raises funds for the Bereaved Families of Ontario organization and all funds stay in the local community. The event will consist of a walk followed by a live butterfly release. Prizes are given to the three walkers who raise the most in pledges. Butterflies are $30 each or three for $75; those who raise $100 in pledges will receive one free butterfly.
Kitchener printing companies will likely be providing services to the organizers of both events, such as the printing of pledge Forms.
