Annual event returns to kick off Christmas

The 22nd annual Christkindl Market is taking place for four days next month in Kitchener.

The market celebrates the German tradition of the Christkind (the gift bringer) and has been named one of the top 100 events in Ontario.

There will be over 100 vendors in attendance, both indoors and outdoors, who will be selling a wide variety of items suitable for gift giving or decorating, and many will be handmade. There will also be several eating stands selling food, wine and other beverages.

The event starts off with a candle-lit parade that travels from Victoria Park to Carl Zehr Square. This year, the opening ceremonies will feature the Grand Philharmonic Choir, a poetry reading, a prologue from the Christkind, and the lighting of the Christmas tree.

Throughout the four days, there will be entertainment from choirs, local bands and dance groups. There will also be a train room to visit, blacksmith demonstrations, and appearances from various folklore characters. Children will be able to take part in crafts at Santa’s workshop.

This annual event tends to be popular in Kitchener, and to advertise, organizers often invest in flyer printing services.

The Christkindle Market will be held at Kitchener City Hall from December 6 to 9. Admission is free of charge. To learn more, visit the official event website.
