44th annual Oktoberfest comes to Kitchener
Over 700,000 residents of the Kitchener and Waterloo region were on hand for the region’s 44th annual Oktoberfest - a large outdoor festival that featured traditional Bavarian keg-tapping at Civic Square last weekend. Local Kitchener and Waterloo printing companies played a role in ensuring a high turnout in the highly anticipated event.
Certainly among the largest Bavarian festival in Canada, the Oktoberfest featured opening ceremonies, dancing, marching bands, floats, and even a fashion show and a pouring competition during the nine-day festival. Around 200,000 people alone were on hand for last weekend’s Thanksgiving Day parade, which culminated with the Onkel Hans Food Drive. The food drive managed to collect a generous 15,000 pounds of food, along with $12,000 in cash for the Food Bank of Waterloo region, which also services needy Kitchener residents.
The services of local printing companies were no doubt instrumental in making the Civic Square festivities a resounding success. Heavily promoted throughout the entire region through banner printing and posters, the large turnout helped ensure community, competition, and charity. Ten year-round staff members, along with over 450 volunteers and casual assistants also helped ensure that the yearly institution had a huge turnout in the ‘all ages’ event.
Local printing companies are indispensable in reaching local residents to encourage attendance at community street festivals like Oktoberfest through numerous posters and banners throughout the community.
The 44th annual Oktoberfest and activities lasted nine days and ended in the region last Saturday, October 13. A car show in the downtown core wrapped up the last day of the festival.
