Major musical artists will be hitting Downsview this summer as part of the new seasonal Rogers Stadium.
The concert venue will be a temporary structure designed to host up to 50,000 people, making it Toronto’s largest purpose-built stadium. K-Pop band Stray Kids will be playing the first concert on the site. There will be 15 shows held at the venue from June to September, including four shows from top-selling rock band Coldplay as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, and two performances each from iconic Britpop group Oasis and female Korean group Blackpink. Other scheduled performers include Deftones, Hozier and System of a Down.
The facility is meant to host the kind of spectacular stadium concerts that have become hot tickets across North America in recent years. These shows are often noted for poster printing and multimedia advertising being visible across the host city. Oak View Group will be hiring numerous people in hospitality roles to support the events.
The venue is part of the YZD development on the site of the former Downsview Airport lands, which is eventually planned to be home to over 24,000 new homes. The location was selected because of the amount of available space and accessibility to public transit.
Rogers Stadium will officially open its doors for Stray Kids on June 29, with shows continuing until September 10.
