New subway station to be called Downsview Park

A decision has been made over the naming of the new station being built on the end of the Toronto Transit Commission’s new subway stop, located near the entrance to Downsview Park.

The station, which was original designated as the Sheppard Avenue West stop, will now be called Downsview Park. This is because, as it is also part of the GO Transit Barrie line, stops on this route are named for places, not streets. The current Downsview TTC subway station will be renamed Sheppard West.

The new station is located at 1212 Sheppard Avenue, and will consist of two buildings along with access to the Barrie GO Transit line. The two buildings will be on opposite sides of the GO station. Track work has already been completed and covered back over, and construction of the structures is well underway. Aside of their functional features, they will also contain art installations by Panya Clark Espinal.

The design team responsible for this station is the same one that created the Highway 407 station.

Members of the public are often interested in new developments such as this, and want to see the artist’s conception of what the final results will look like. A Print company can produce full color ‘blown up’ versions of them so they can see them for themselves.
