New construction begins second phase in Downsview

A new development has entered the second stage of construction in Downsview, and it’s hoped that it will help to revitalize the area.

Named ‘Yorkdale Village’, it’s a mixed-use development blending residential dwellings with commercial space as well. It’s being built right along the area’s main thoroughfare, where a bowling alley and strip mall once stood.

The first phase of the project has been completed, and the 75 homes sold out very quickly. The second phase on construction has now begun, and it will include 96 homes as well as 5000 square feet of first-floor commercial space.

According to the local authorities, this form of mixed-use development for renewal along designated avenues is encouraged, as it will help to breathe new life into urban spaces. Construction of another development is likewise underway facing Downsview Avenue, and the new ION condo building is also being built.

In order to make the area as pedestrian friendly as possible, sidewalks are being revamped to make them more attractive and pleasant, and to provide easy access to the different retail establishments along the avenue. It’s hoped that this will increase foot traffic and will attract high-quality retailers to the area.

Urban renewal can prove to be a boon for local businesses that serve the area. In turn, this can result in increased business for firms, such as printing companies, that provide services and support for them.
