Free local farm festival coming soon

The 5th annual Black Creek Community Farm Festival is scheduled for later this month, with fun, educational activities planned for the entire family.

Since opening in 2012, the Black Creek Community Farm has worked towards improving food confidence and bringing new employment and educational opportunities to Toronto and area residents.

Under the leadership of long time Downsview resident Leticia Boahen, the farm has established a local area youth internship program, in addition to the many summer camps, festivals and memberships it currently offers.

The farm festival will make full use of the many features at Black Creek Farm, including four-season greenhouses, a mushroom garden, organic vegetable fields, and a trail through the forest.

An exciting Scavenger Hunt tour event is planned for the day. Educational children’s activities and mini workshops will be held in the farm’s outdoor classroom. Printing services may be used to create colouring and writing projects and handouts, about urban farming and organic produce.

Available for purchase will be their popular wood-fired oven, farm fresh pizza, as well as organic fruits and vegetables that have been grown on site.

The Black Creek Community Farm is located at 4929 Jane Street, in Toronto. The festival is planned for Saturday, July 22, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. The festival offers free admission, and a free shuttle bus from the Driftwood Community Centre parking lot.
