Family harvest activity planned for Downsview Park

An all-ages event has been planned for Downsview Park that will allow those who take part to learn more about where their food comes from.

The park staff will be on hand for Harvest Downsview. Those who come out will have an opportunity to help harvest the crop that is growing in the park’s vegetable gardens. Along with this, the group will be taken on an excursion through the grounds to learn more about edible wild plants, how to collect and harvest them, and also how the different animals who call the park home use them as their food source.

The event is open to people of all ages, but those who are under 16 need to be accompanied by a parent, guardian or other adult. People who are interested in taking part are asked to leave their dogs or other pets at home and reminded that they should turn up dressed for the weather. It is further recommended that since some of the terrain being covered may be rough, the use of strollers may not be a good idea. Newsletter printing can be used to create bulletins and other materials that keep people in the area abreast of the latest activities going on in community parks such as this.

Harvest Downsview will take place in Downsview Park on August 28, starting at 2:00 pm. Further details are available on its website.
