For the first time, one of Caribana’s most popular events, the Junior Carnival Parade, will be held at Downsview Park, a Canadian urban national park located in northern Toronto. The parade previously was held at Jane and Finch, several miles to the west. With more than 2,000 registered dancers, the Junior Carnival Parade is expected to draw a large crowd to Downsview Park during the three-week celebration.
Small and colorful costumes, reams of jewelry on tiny arms and feet, and junior dancers will grace the stage and provide delightful entertainment for the parade. The sound of steel drums will ring through the park and resound through the neighborhood. Dancing to calypso music in Toronto has been part of the Caribana celebrations for the last 45 years.
A few days ago, onlookers were treated to the dress rehearsal for the parade, with the main event to be held on July 21 at 11:00 am and set to kick off the festival.
