Downsview to discover joys of urban forging

Downsview Park provides residents of the Greater Toronto Area with a huge green space in the heart of the city, and it has planned an activity that will offer living proof of how much wild food can be found in an urban environment.

An outing has been organized that will introduce some of the fundamentals of foraging, and this is in-person activity is for those age 16 and up. Advance registration is required, and the function will run for 90 minutes.

The walk will introduce participants to a variety of wild food that can be harvested from urban parks and other green spaces. The attendees will also visit the site’s agricultural fields so they can discover how they may even be able to grow some of their own food at home in their own garden or on their balcony. It will be accessible to those who require a mobility device.

One of the roles a park plays in a community can be to promote the value of environmental stewardship. A brochure printing company can supply an assortment of learning materials to hand out to the registrants at such an event.

This instalment of Downsview’s “A Walk in the Park” series will be hitting the trails on August 9th, starting at 10:00 am. Anyone who would like to sign up can do so online.
